Another mile of well-traveled roadway reopens this week with new life and a new asphalt surface on Waterloo road from SH 74 (Portland) West to Meridian Road. Our board of commissioners unanimously approved this project earlier this fall and their decision was an easy one given the evidence of need due to overuse and neglect witnessed by the physical damage of the roadway in question.
This is only the first of many more miles of Waterloo Road to be repaired in the future. All done in cooperation with Oklahoma County and District 3 Commissioner Ray Vaughn’s road construction team who did a great job!
We are proud to be a part of improving the areas we can to increase driver safety on our county roads. In coordination with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office we have successfully deployed a new Radar Reminder sign to help drivers remember the new 45 MPH speed limit on Broadway between Waterloo Road and Forest Hill.
When we were considering reducing the speed limit on Broadway we reached out to our County Undersheriff Craig McCleery. Craig provided his anecdotal but relevant personal experience of how an automated radar detector sign can immediately get the attention of distracted drivers and so provide real speed reduction of vehicles in dangerous areas. So we invested in one which we are now using on Broadway to reduce speed of vehicles approaching the Charter Oak intersection.
Given its short time in operation, we are beginning to receive very positive feedback from local residents. With this immediate and positive effect on driver safety we plan to continue this program in the future to add one more sign and we will be rotating the reminder sign locations.
We will continue to evaluate this technology in solving other safety issues in our district to solve issues and recommendations from our residents, Fire/EMT first responders, and our local, county, and state law enforcement officers.
More next week on our Save to Pave Program, ongoing road maintenance, and a review of our year end budget, all good news.
Until next time, be safe out there on our county roads and bridges.
